Sustainability

Our Responsibilities

ConnectEast recognises that our responsibilities extend to delivering social and environmental improvement to the regions in which we operate.

To guide and govern our actions we have developed the following values statement:

Sustainable development for the ConnectEast Group seeks to optimise the benefits we can generate for society and the environment over the long term while meeting the legitimate financial, social and environmental obligations of a public company in accordance with the fiduciary duty of its directors and senior management.

ConnectEast’s first priority is to remain sustainable as a business and so the initiatives we pursue are aimed at creating a benefit to our bottom line as well as broader benefits for the community and environment.

Greenfleet

ConnectEast has signed an agreement with Greenfleet to offset the vehicle emissions of the EastLink vehicle fleet.

The fleet of more than 20 vehicles includes six response vans as well as utility vehicles, flat bed and tow trucks, tractors and a road sweeper. EastLink vehicles can be seen operating on EastLink every day and night of the year in support of incident response, maintenance and landscaping activities. Each month, the EastLink vehicles use around 11,000 litres of diesel, 2,000 litres of unleaded petrol, and 2,000 litres of LPG.

ConnectEast and Transfield Services are actively involved with environmental improvement through the development and maintenance of the EastLink landscaping and wetlands, which together cover an area greater than the 480 hectares of parks and gardens in the City of Melbourne. EastLink vehicle emissions are offset by new native trees planted in Australia as part of Greenfleet’s biosequestration program.
