Urban Design

EastLink’s urban design draws its inspiration from the colours and textures of the surrounding natural environment.

Wood Marsh Achitecture and Tract Consultants head up EastLink's urban design team.

Noise Walls

13,600 noise wall panels have been installed at a number of locations along the corridor to ensure the EastLink project complies with established VicRoads noise standards. The walls comprise a variety of concrete panels in either charcoal or off-white pigmented concrete with fractured or rock textured patterns. In some sections, the concrete panels are combined with transparent acrylic panels.

Landscaping

Complementing the noise walls is the largest landscaping program ever undertaken on any road project in Australia. In total, more than $50 million is being invested in designing and undertaking landscape works including the realignment and rehabilitation of creeks, construction of wetlands, installation of the shared use path and the revegetation of open space areas and parkland. Over 3.5 million native species trees and shrubs, plus additional grassed areas, have been planted and any disturbed fauna have been successfully rescued and re-introduced into other suitable habitats off site.

Public Art - The EastLink Collection

ConnectEast’s public art program sets a new standard for artistic achievement on roadways in Australia. EastLink makes a substantial contribution to urban design and the cultural life of the communities along the project corridor.  This includes the works of art along the motorway and the shared use path, as well as the urban design of the motorway itself.
