CPI INCREASE ON EASTLINK FROM 1 JULY 2010

04/06/2010

EastLink will continue to have the cheapest car tolls on any private tollway in Australia following a Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustment next month. From 1 July 2010, EastLink’s tolls and user charges will rise in line with the 2009 CPI increase of 2.1%.

EastLink’s tolls only change once a year, based on the annual rate of inflation, as measured by the CPI rate each year.

The latest CPI adjustment will see EastLink’s toll cap for cars set at $5.26 (up from $5.15). The toll cap is the maximum amount charged for a single trip on EastLink by a car with a tag.

However, EastLink’s distance-based tolling system means that motorists with a tolling account need only pay for the sections of the motorway they use. For example, from next month, 10 of 13 toll sections on EastLink will be priced at either 35 cents or 53 cents.

In addition, EastLink will continue to provide a 20% discount on car tolls for any trip in a single toll section (other than the EastLink tunnels) on weekdays; and for any trip on weekends and public holidays.

This means that from 1 July 2010 the maximum toll for a single trip on EastLink by a car with a tag will be $4.20 on weekends and public holidays.

Following the CPI adjustment, a full 39 kilometre car trip on EastLink will cost an average of 13.5 cents per kilometre (or 10.8 cents per kilometre for times when the 20% discount applies).
