EASTLINK ROADWORKS AT PRINCES HWY
06/11/2009
Repair works have begun on an EastLink embankment located immediately north of the Princes Highway interchange. The works are required to address greater than expected ground settlement.
Works adjacent to the EastLink entry and exit ramps will stabilise the embankment before re-asphalting on this section of EastLink’s carriageways takes place.
In the meantime, some temporary asphalting works will be carried out on EastLink to restore a smoother surface. These works will occur during off-peak times to minimise the inconvenience for motorists.
There are no safety issues associated with either the settlement or associated embankment repairs.
The localised ground settlement has affected a 100 metre section of pavement on EastLink, causing an uneven ride for motorists. Some minor repair works on this section have already been undertaken by ConnectEast’s construction contractor Thiess John Holland (TJH), both prior to and following EastLink’s opening.
Geotechnical experts have been monitoring the situation on behalf of TJH and have determined that further work is required on this embankment.
The repair works are being undertaken by TJH as required by its two-year rectification obligations under the EastLink construction contract and are expected to be completed by early 2010.
